Hanover Tavern Foundation
Hanover, VA
Since the 18th century, Hanover Tavern has served as a public gathering place offering food and hospitality for those en route between Washington and Richmond. Hanover Tavern's illustrious life includes many roles - inn, stagecoach stop, post office and dinner theater. The structure as it stands today was built in 1791, and is listed as a contributing property on the National Register of Historic Places and is on the Virginia Landmarks Register. Hanover Tavern's partnership with Barksdale Theatre Company and Michelle's Restaurant sustains the social tradition of dining and entertainment at Hanover Tavern. Now it has new life after a 15-year restoration and preservation project by the Hanover Tavern Foundation, which is working to make this historic structure's future worthy of its past.
