Mesquite Historical Museums
Mesquite, TX
The Mesquite Museums System is comprised of two historical house museums and parks properties – the Florence Ranch Homestead, which is situated on 3 acres in north Mesquite; and Opal Lawrence Historical Park, which is located near the original downtown area and is a 13+acre park still under restoration.
The City of Mesquite owns the two museums; the local non-profit, Historic Mesquite, Inc. operates and manages the properties. Both are Recorded Texas Historical Landmarks and Century Family Farms (Texas Department of Agriculture). Opal Lawrence Historical Park, which features a 4,000 square-foot farmhouse and large livestock barn, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Historic Mesquite, Inc. spends over 75-cents of every $1 donated on programming, education, restoration and events. The organization is a Local Partner with the National Trust for Historical Preservation and the City of Mesquite is a Preserve America Community.
