The Coal Miners' Museum / The Van Lear Historical Society, Inc.

The Coal Miners' Museum is located in the building formerly occupied by the Consolidation Coal Company. The exhibits include: A collection of mining emplements, a recreation of a doctor's office, a large collection of Van Lear School related memorabilia, a model of a large section of the town as it appeared during it's "boom years", a 1950's store, and many other more.
The Van Lear Historical Society, INC. was incorporated in 1982 by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The organization's headquarters are housed in the same building as the Coal Miners' Museum. The society is dedicated to perserving the history of the community for it's former, present and future citizens. The society also strives to educate the general public about life in a 20th century "company owned" coal town.
